Collaboration Between Â鶹´«Ã½ Administration and AFT Local 1839 Featured on NJ Spotlight News
JERSEY CITY, N.J. | On April 17, NJ Spotlight News and PBS visited campus for a feature story discussing how Â鶹´«Ã½ is recovering following the declaration in June 2022 of the university’s financial crisis. The story and interview by reporter Ted Goldberg is entitled “Collaborating to turn things around at New Â鶹´«Ã½ City University.â€
The news program interviewed Interim President Andrés Acebo, AFT Local 1839 President Dr. Barbara Hildner — an Â鶹´«Ã½ English Professor since 1972 — and Dr. William Calathes, Chief Negotiator of AFT Local 1839 and Professor of Criminal Justice at Â鶹´«Ã½ since September 1987, to discuss this month's memorandum of understanding between Â鶹´«Ã½'s administration and faculty.
The MOU, announced on Â鶹´«Ã½.edu, via social media, and to the media on April 11, will strengthen shared governance, good faith labor relations, and collective responsibility for student success. Among the accomplishments of the document, it encourages collaboration between the people who run the campus and those who teach there.
